Justin Gaethje will be stepping up on short notice to battle Tony Ferguson for the UFC interim lightweight title which will be the main event on April 18 at UFC 249.

For their upcoming fight this month, UFC have once again delivered an unbelievable promo video that will certainly get you hyped, even if you are still feeling let down about Khabib Nurmagomedov's withdrawal.

Ferguson was initially set to challenge the undisputed lightweight champion Khabib at the event, but, like COVID-19 restricting the majority of sports events, ‘The Eagle’ was grounded in Russia and unable to participate.

Now, the person stepping in for Khabib on April 18 is the surging UFC lightweight contender Gaethje (21-2 MMA).

Known as ‘The Highlight’, he will enter UFC 249 on the back of a three-fight win streak, with all of those victories coming inside the first round.

Gaethje beat top-ranked contenders James Vick, Edson Barboza and most recently Donald Cerrone during that impressive winning run.

However, the 31-year-old will be seeking to hand Tony Ferguson (25-3 MMA) his first defeat in nearly eight years in the business.

‘El Cucuy’ is on his own winning run which stands at 12 fights, his latest being a TKO victory over ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone at UFC 238.

Even though UFC fans will surely be thrilled to see two fighters in fine form when Gaethje and Ferguson meet in the Octagon, there is still no doubt that the bout pales in comparison to that of Tony vs Khabib.

The anticipated fight between Tony Ferguson and Khabib has failed to happen for a fifth time now after the scheduled main event at UFC 249 was cancelled.

Gaethje has been labelled the underdog for this fight after Ferguson’s impressive win streak prior to this scheduled bout. With that in mind, ‘The Highlight’ remains very confident that he will be able to secure another finish when the pair meet in the Octagon on April 18 in California.
