Sterling is worth more than the Argentine superstar, according to CIES

Raheem Sterling has made a pretty decent start to the 2019/20 campaign.

He scored against his former club, Liverpool, in the Community Shield at Wembley as Manchester City claimed their first silverware of the season after a penalty shootout.

Then, on the opening weekend of the Premier League, Sterling notched a hat-trick as City thumped West Ham 5-0 at the London Stadium.

It seems the 24-year-old has picked up where he left off following his 25-goal haul last season.

Sterling was one of the best players in the Premier League last season but can he now take his game to the next level?

Can he be in the Ballon d’Or running in the years to come, alongside the world’s best?

Well, according to Football Observatory CIES, Sterling is now more valuable than five-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi.

For the first time in his career, Sterling has surpassed Messi with the former Liverpool man now worth an eye-watering €207.8m. The ageing Messi, on the other hand, is worth €167.4m.
